When looking at adoption, there are many couples who have mainly happy and mostly fulfilled lives but do not have children and this can make them feel unfulfilled, even possible put a strain on their relationship, even if they are in love. Unfortunately, adoption is not straightforward and there are many factors to overcome. It is only when every piece of paperwork has been completed that the adoption can finally proceed. For an adopted child in the US for example, all previous details will be erased and they will receive an amended birth certificate carrying their new adoptive parent's name. If the adopted child is very young then it may be many years and probably when the child is in their teens before they can fully explain the adoption process and the implications so that the child will understand.
When adopting from your native country is not possible, International adoption is a very positive alternative. It is an unfortunate fact that couples who have failed to conceive and adopt in their own country will often find international adoption is the only route left open to them. At one time adopting a child internationally often meant that there was little information about the child or their parents, and that they may never have access to any in the future.
Some couples already have children and often adopt another child as well because they may not be able to have anymore. There are many children worldwide whose only wish is to be part of a loving family and despite many stories to the contrary, adoption opportunities today have improved over recent years.
