Coming Up With A Good Office Party Idea

Holiday parties are both fun without doubt, but they can be a bit stale. I suggest you throw out the old ideas this year and go with something new and unique to freshen things up. Here are a few ideas that you might run with.

It happens at nearly every office party. One person gets a bit carried away. You know. Has a few too many beverages and begins to loosen up a bit more than anyone wants. With luck, not much happens. For the unlucky, it could be time to brush up the resume.

Simply put, moderation is the key. You don't want to say or do something you will really regret. Remember, you boss and supervisors are attending the same party. It is considered a really bad move to say something that gets you fired on the spot.

On to party ideas. Your biggest decision when it comes to the company party will be deciding what type of party you are going to have. Large entities throw big blowouts. Smaller companies, in my opinion, have more fun.

If your company has 20 or fewer employees, a more personal party can be a great idea. Try throwing one at the home of the owner. His wife will love the idea even if he doesn't. The party will feel less impersonal than at a banquet hall or restaurant.

If the boss agrees, you are going to have to come up with edibles and drinkables. Checkout the catering options in the area, which don't cost nearly as much as you might think. If things are tight, have everyone bring a dish and share it out.

At some point, entertainment should be arranged. You can hire a DJ or risk the idea of a karaoke sign along. You can also go with some type of gift exchange, but cap the gift price fairly low so nobody gets emberrassed.

If you really want to think outside the box, turn the office party into an event. Take everyone to some event on the company. A friend of mine works for a company that took everyone to a Cirque de Soliel show. Wow!

At the end of the day, I suggest you try something different with your holiday party. Most people are sick and tired of banquet rooms and some form of chicken breast dinner. Been there. Done that. Go for something new. If it fails, at least you tried.
