Claritin Medication - Check out it's Uses & Side Effects

Claritin is an antihistamine that relieves the sneezing, runny nose, stuffiness, itching, and tearing eyes caused by hay fever or other upper respiratory allergies. It also relieves the swollen, red, itchy patches of skin caused by hives. Claritin is also available as an over-the-counter product.

Claritin Dosage

* For adults and children 6 years of age and over, the usual starting dose is 10 milligrams once a day, and you should be taken as 1 tablet or 2 teaspoonfuls of syrup.
* For children 2 to 5, the usual starting dose is 1 teaspoonful of syrup once a day. If the child has kidney or liver problems, then you should give 1 teaspoonful every other day.

Uses of Claritin

* Claritin is used to treat� hives, and other allergic inflammatory conditions.
* Claritin �is used to relieve hay fever and allergy symptoms, including sneezing, runny nose, and red, itchy, tearing eyes. Claritin-D is in a class of medications called antihistamines. �

Side Effects of Claritin

Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Claritin and talk to your doctor if you experience

*Drowsiness or dizziness
*Nausea, diarrhea, or abdominal discomfort;
* Fatigue
* Headache
* Sleepiness
* Discoloration of urine

Warnings and precautions before taking Claritin:

* If you are taking prescription and nonprescription medications especially erythromycin, ketoconazole, medications for asthma or colds, medications for depression, muscle relaxants, pain medications, sedatives, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, and vitamins, then you should tell your doctor.
* You should tell your doctor if you are allergic to loratadine or any other drugs. �
* You should tell your doctor if you have or have ever had kidney or liver disease.

Drug Interaction :- There are no known interactions between Claritin and other medications. If you are taking Claritin with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines during treatment with Claritin.

* Antibiotics such as erythromycin
* Cimetidine
* Ketoconazole

Overdose

Seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms include :-

*Headache
* Rapid heartbeat
* Sleepiness
* Drowsiness
* Nausea
* Vomiting
* Sweating
* Increased thirst
* Weakness
* Restlessness.
