Many people believe they can get fit at home, but it is difficult maintaining motivation, whereas joining a fitness club could be the best option. The important first step is deciding what it is you want achieve and finding a club that can give you what you need. If you choose your club well you will probably be a member for a long time; the reverse is also true. The most important factor is where your club is located as the biggest reason for people giving up is because they have to go out of their way to get to it; so a location close to where you live or work is preferable. You must be comfortable with your trainer and be happy that they are professional and have sufficient experience to train you. They will also need to be aware of any physical limitations you may have or of any special needs before the training starts. Test the staff out by asking them questions about the club and services as this will tell you professional and keen they are to have you as a member. Check to see if the fitness club has other professionals are employed there, like martial arts instructors for example. Try to find a club with flexible opening hours because it is no good if you can only attend in the evening when they are closed. Some people join a fitness club to join classes; of course these are usually an extra charge so if at all possible try and have a free lesson before you commit to anything. It may seem like a minor point but if the club doesn't have sufficient training equipment to go around, queues are likely to form and that is when people start to leave. The more modern fitness facilities available these days are world apart from training equipment a few years ago; machines are much safer and easier to use but look out for damaged or broken machines as these should really be fixed within a week. You may be invited to one of the clubs events to enable you to meet current member, this is well wroth the effort on your part as you may make a few friends before you actually join. You will also need to know what the membership fees are, whether they increase a great deal every year and if there are charges not mentioned in the literature. Choosing the right fitness club might mean visiting a number that are local to you and whilst this may seem unnecessary at first, finding the right one is very important. Choosing a club is just like shopping on the best shirt for you so don't be pressured or contact them right away; take your time to review and gather enough information if you are still not sure which one to choose.
