It's amazing just how good you look after a good night's sleep. When I was young my mother would always be on about getting enough beauty rest but I never understood what she was talking about.

Of course nowadays, I understand completely what it was they were trying to tell me about the benefits of sleep. Proper sleep is essential to peace of mind and a healthy body. You can always tell how good a person feels on the inside because it shows in the radiant look they have on the outside.

If you want to see how well someone is sleeping then take a look at their face, you can tell I'm not sleeping well if you look at mine. It's quite obvious I'm not sleeping much and no amount of makeup seems to hide it. It's one of those things that can't be hidden successfully, if you're tired it shows. I suppose because I'm not sleeping well I can always tell immediately when someone is getting a healthy night's sleep. Make sure you are getting seven or eight hours a night.

I have learnt that the best way to get a good night's sleep is too invest in a good mattress because you can guarantee that an old worn out one won't give you the sleep you deserve. This is something I realized recently and I'm going to have to go and spend some serious money on a supportive mattress very soon.

Getting a mattress that has just the correct level of firmness is the problem because if it is too soft or too hard, it will spoil your beauty sleep. Something else to watch out for is a bed that doesn't allow enough room for you to stretch out comfortably. It could also be that you share your bed; this often causes problems for both partners. You should always have enough space to stretch out and not feel cramped if you want that good night's sleep.

So if you have a comfortable, large bed and you still can't sleep then you must consider your environment. The bedroom is there to be slept in and should be a comfortable, stress free environment to enable this, so don't have anything in your bedroom that isn't supposed to be there. If you have eliminated everything else then consider your lighting or sound that may be causing the sleep problem. To help with this, a sleep mask can stop any intrusive light and a 'white noise' machine can help counteract any noises that are in the background.
