A Clambake for Christmas

Clambakes have widely existed for a hundred years now. Originally introduced by the Native Americans in the New England area, they are now known as New England clambakes. With the Christmas season approaching, it's a great time to plan a clambake with close friends and family for Christmas dinner.

The pit was where the first original clambakes were cooked. This pit was dug and on the bottom, a layer of stones was laid. On top of these hot stones, a layer of clams, potatoes, live lobster, and corn husks were placed with fresh seaweed which separates the layers.

The Native Americans would build a huge fire in the pit in order to cook the seafood and fresh vegetables. They would later place the seafood on top of the hot stones when the fire has been reduced to hot ash and embers.

There are lots of places where you can get fresh seafood for your planned clambake. There are basically two kinds of clambakes, the standard clambake and the super deluxe clambake wherein shellfish, mussels, shrimp, and other fresh seafood are added. Both of these kinds have clam chowder, lobster bisque, and other supplies needed to serve with the clambake.

For larger gatherings, the super deluxe clambake for Christmas is the more popular option. Since this type of clambake includes more types of seafood, more guests will be able to find something they like to eat. In addition, you're much less likely to run out of food, even with many people.

Modern methods nowadays have indeed replaced the old cooking preparation of clambakes and it includes convenience as you can now have a clambake prepared over the stove or on the grill. But if you have a fire pit, that would be another good option as it follows the more traditional way which still makes the clambake meal very distinct and delicious at the same time. In addition, there will be less cleaning up needed when you opt for a fun outdoor party.

A clambake is a great idea to consider for your Christmas party. Unprocessed fresh foods such as seafood and shellfish are especially healthy and nutritious. A clambake also offers your guests a festive party atmosphere. This makes for a very special alternative to the traditional, and usually less nutritious party foods a host often makes available to party guests.

Talk about a real conversation starter - consider hosting a classic clambake for Christmas during the outdoor party season. The healthier clambake is in fact, superior to junk food or take-out and is definitely more interesting.
